In the City of Adams, West State Street is the gateway for many tourist and economic opportunities but the aging pavement is rapidly deteriorating from the shoulders in. Standing water (and in the winter – ice) is a safety hazard and a drain on economic activity.
In addition to improving the drainage, the shoulders need to be widened and intersections improved to reduce the rate of accidents that occur along the street, roughly six times the state average since 2000.
Repairing the street would also facilitate growth for the area and aid in reducing the unemployment rate. The Street acts allows access to numerous residential properties, commercial properties, farming operations, and tourist opportunities for residents and tourists visiting the area.
